Our story
The word Jembe is derived from an African Drum which forms an important part of the rich culture of African people. The Jembe drums are used amongst others to send messages from one settlement to another and in social gatherings. The word Jembe is freely translated to mean “people coming together to gather in peace”.
Built to last
We are proudly South African. All our products are built in South Africa with locally sourced 304 and 316 stainless steel. We can claim without any fear of contradiction that our Fire Pits are made with the thickest material of any fire pit on the market and are of superior quality. Our fire pits and accessories are made in a world-class factory based in Port Elizabeth, which manufactures various stainless steel products that are exported to international markets.
The JEMBE fire pit is manufactured from 304 stainless steel and our accessories are manufactured from 316 (food grade) and 304 stainless steel.
The Jembe and its accessories can therefore be left outside and can withstand all that nature can throw at it.
Smokeless
Due to the design of our fire pits the smoke is almost completely eliminated. When the fire is started smoke will be emitted for 5 to 10 minutes whereafter the fire will be almost 100% smokeless.
How does it work?
Smoke is organic material that was not burned off during the first combustion. Our fire pits are designed to create a second combustion which burns the remaining smoke off resulting in a smokeless fire.
First Combustion
Airflow from the bottom of the Fire Pit enables consistent oxygen feed to the fire. This results in the first combustion. The JEMBE is designed to supply maximum oxygen to the fire even after ash has built up at the bottom of the fire pit.
Second Combustion
The Fire Pit incorporates a double wall construction. Air enters at the bottom between the two walls. This air is heated up by the fire. The heated air rises and squirts through the holes at the top of the inside cylinder providing warm oxygenated air to the fire. The heated oxygen causes a secondary combustion resulting in the smoke being burned off.
The fire will emit smoke until the air is heated sufficiently to create the second combustion. This takes approximately 5 to 10 minutes depending on how the fire is build and the material used. From the moment the second combustion starts, the fire remain smokeless as long as the fire is fed with sufficient wood.
Braai culture
The JEMBE braai experience is extremely entertaining and social. As the name suggests the JEMBE results in “people coming together to gather”. The JEMBE experience is to sit around the fire, watching the coals and flames whilst the food is being prepared. The braai-master is part of the social gathering and is not sweating it out on his own.
The JEMBE comes with a host of accessories, Braaigrid, Potjieholder, Rotisserie, Asado (Argentinian angled braai) and Wok. These accessories can be used on the various JEMBE fire pits. The variety of the meals you can cook and braai on the JEMBE is endless.

The JEMBE is more than just a braai. It is also a Fire Pit producing heat to warm you. The equivalent of a Boma-fire but without the smoke. No more smoke musical chairs!
With a separate stand, the JEMBE accessories can be used without the JEMBE fire pit, in your existing braai or when you go camping.
Safety
The JEMBE smokeless Fire Pit is designed for outdoor use only. Never use your JEMBE in an enclosed area.
The JEMBE is designed to be used on most surfaces. The bottom of the firepit is 150 mm off the surface on which it will be used.
It can safely be used on a wooden deck for example. Care must however be taken with the surfaces the JEMBE is placed on. It is advised that you test the JEMBE on a piece of the material on which you intend to use it before you fire it up on potential heat sensitive materials.
The fire pit and accessories will become hot when in use. To avoid burns use protective gear such as gloves at all times when you touch the JEMBE or the accessories. Wait until the JEMBE has cooled down before it is stored or placed near heat sensitive materials. When using the JEMBE do not leave it unattended, especially in high wind conditions and when children and pets are present.
